We began in 1983 when Honda could not find a distributor willing to represent their engine line in the state of Oklahoma. Honda contacted Glenn Smith, who was one of their largest power equipment retail dealers, and offered Honda Engines to Glenn Smith for distribution in Oklahoma. In 1989 it became apparent that the distribution company needed to be separated for continued growth. A new 12,000 square foot building was purchased and a general manager was hired to manage Smith Distributing Co. Over the next ten years our continued growth allowed us to relocate to an even larger facility with over 20,000 square feet of space.
Our main product lines are Wright Manufacturing commercial lawn mowers and Stens replacement parts. One of our goals is to provide a high percentage fill rate with parts and whole goods. This year we have maintained a 91.4% fill rate, calculated by invoice item. Our policy is to give same day shipping on all orders submitted by 3:00pm CST, and most orders in the state of Oklahoma receive delivery in one day. We currently serve Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas.
Smith Distributing has added value with support programs such as sales, service, and marketing. Our willingness to guide dealers through warranty, service, and marketing creates a unification with the personnel at the dealer and distributor level. We have attended trade shows and worked booths for our dealers/manufacturers. In addition to being on hand for open houses at our dealer locations for questions and support. We are working towards updating our website to allow dealer login for basic functions such as order entry, account payment, and stock inquiries. We currently strive to keep our site up to date and keep all important product links listed and clearly visible.
